Dear Tiny Sepuku: One Little Cartoon’s Bold and Bewildering Love Advice $10.28 Dear Tiny: My boyfriend always gets me bad gifts and I’m too nice to tell him he has bad taste. Dear Tiny: My girlfriend gets so jealous of my female friends that I can’t hang out with them without a drama. Dear Tiny: How do I stop attracting the same losers into my life time after time’ The questions are simple enough, but the answers are downright hilarious. In panel after panel, Ken Cursoe has created an advice column/cartoon that attacks the insecurities and tames the uncertainties of everyday life. Whether it’s addressing topics like dating or unrequited love or breaking up, Tiny Sepuku tackles them head on, finding hilariously absurd solutions for readers who write in.The name Sepuku is based on the Japanese word seppuku, which roughly translates to sacrifice for the benefit of others. Relationships tend to be just that, says the author, thus the unusual name made sense for this type of comic. The advice column aspect allows people to interact directly with the strip. Says Cursoe, If it helps someone take their problems a little less seriously by seeking advice from a cartoon, then I think I did my job. More important, Tiny Sepuku is completely entertaining. Cursoe’s take on the world of work and relationships adds a refreshing perspective to the comics page. |

Dual Relationships in Counselling & Psychotherapy $48.95 This thought- provoking book should be required reading for all trainers, practitioners and supervisors. It examines the complex issues that arise when the clinician enters into a relationship with the client beyond the psychotherapeutic boundaries’ – Healthcare Counselling and Psychotherapy Journal A recent development in the profession is a consideration of the appropriate use of touch. This is looked at in some detail in this book with useful guidelines of the issues to be considered in deciding whether to touch a client or not. The issue of dual relationships with clients, trainees and supervisees affects most counsellors or psychotherapists at some point in their careers. Many practitioners are unclear about such boundary issues and how, when and if it is appropriate to enter into a dual relationship, whether as a friend, business partner or sexual partner. These relationships are seldom neutral and can have a powerful beneficial or detrimental impact on the person seeking help. Dual Relationships in Counselling & Psychotherapy examines the circumstances in which such relationships arise and provides guidelines on how to ethically manage, avoid or even to develop dual relationships. It also clearly defines the limits beyond which practitioners must not go. The book explores: the dangers of sexual relationships; non-sexual relationships (for example, requests for friendship, gift-giving and chance meetings outside the therapy room); and dual relationships which inevitably occur in small communities and minority groups. Exploring a subject which is often avoided and, for some, even taboo, Dual Relationships in Counselling & Psychotherapy is aninvaluable source of advice for trainees and practitioners alike. |

Eclipse Building Commercial-Quality Plug-Ins $50.67 I’m often asked, ‘What are the best books about Eclipse?’ Number one on my list, every time, is Eclipse: Building Commercial-Quality Plug-ins. I find it to be the clearest and most relevant book about Eclipse for the real-world software developer. Other Eclipse books focus on the internal Eclipse architecture or on repeating the Eclipse documentation, whereas this book is laser focused on the issues and concepts that matter when you’re trying to build a product. — Bjorn Freeman-BensonDirector, Open Source Process, Eclipse Foundation As the title suggests, this massive tome is intended as a guide to best practices for writing Eclipse plug-ins. I think in that respect it succeeds handily. Before you even think about distributing a plug-in you’ve written, read this book. — Ernest Friedman-HillSheriff, JavaRanch.com Eclipse: Building Commercial-Quality Plug-ins was an invaluable training aid for all of our team members. In fact, training our team without the use of this book as a base would have been virtually impossible. It is now required reading for all our developers and helped us deliver a brand-new, very complex product on time and on budget thanks to the great job this book does of explaining the process of building plug-ins for Eclipse. — Bruce Gruenbaum This is easily one of the most useful books I own. If you are new to developing Eclipse plug-ins, it is a ‘must-have’ that will save you lots of time and effort. You will find lots of good advice in here, especially things that will help add a whole layer of professionalism and completeness to any plug-in. The book is very focused, well-structured, thorough, clearly written, and doesn’tcontain a single page of ‘waffly page filler.’ The diagrams explaining the relationships between the different components and manifest sections are excellent and aid in understanding how everything fits together. This book goes well beyond Actions, Views, and Editors, and I think everyone will |

Educational Leadership for Organisational Learning and Improved Student Outcomes $221.4 The change in paradigm in our field is away from the great man or woman theory of leadership and the teacher in his or her own classroom to the development of learning communities which value differences and support critical reflection and encourage members to question, challenge, and debate teaching and learning issues. How to achieve such learning communities is far from clear, but we believe the areas of problem-based learning (PBL) and organizational learning (OL) offer valuable clues. The indications are that the successful educational restructuring agenda depends on teams of leaders, whole staffs and school personnel, working together (i.e., OL) linking evidence and practice in genuine collaboration (i.e., PBL). The book is unique in that it is both about and uses these two concepts. The book is made up of four sections: 1.An introductory rational in which the case for using only quality evidence in school reform efforts is argued. Results from a quality research project are then presented. These results are organised around six questions: how is the concept of OL defined in schools (‘teacher voice’)? what leadership practices promote OL in schools (‘teacher voice’)? what are some outcomes of schooling other than academic achievement (‘pupil voice’)? what are the relationships between the non-academic and academic outcomes of schooling? does school leadership and/or organisational learning contribute to student outcomes? And, what other factors contribute to student outcomes? The section concludes with a plea that given the accumulation and consistent quality of the evidence from across systems and countries, we no longer need to involve ourselves with just impressions ofeffective leadership. We have a way forward that links leadership to organisational learning and improved student outcomes. 2.Advice for using the book. The reasons for the choice of problem-based learning as the vehicle for the professional development materials that form the major part of th |

Engaging Patients As Safety Partners $42.58 A how-to book for creating patient-caregiver relationships that improve patient safety. The book aids health care professionals in understanding how patients and families can partner with practitioners to reduce medical errors and how practitioners can mitigate the effects of mistakes when they do occur. It helps health care professionals recognize and overcome barriers that inhibit consumer involvement in patient safety improvement. It also provides valuable advice on how to surmount legal concerns associated with patient/practitioner collaboration. The book is filled with advice, templates, and other solutions to problematic safety issues, such as overcoming the culture of individual accountability that can inhibit collaboration; introducing strategies and techniques for patients to safely navigate the health care system; breaking through barriers caused by low health literacy; overcoming legal, cultural, and regulatory issues that affect information sharing and disclosure. |
